I was a ganache virgin until I made these Creole Brownies. Yep. 'Tis true. I don't cotton much to frou frou. Just don't have time for it. Wish that I did. Oh to have hours to leisurely play in my kitchen with a double-boiler and watch chocolate, butter, whipping cream, and a few other ingredients melt together. I'd much prefer that to how I spend my hours making a paycheck.
The pity is that I don't love chocolate. These brownies are sinfully rich, moist, fudgy and I bet you and your family can't finish eating a batch. We didn't. I ate one or two. Ian ate six or seven. Elsa wouldn't touch them. She's a tough customer when it comes to chocolate. She doesn't love it so much. I was the same when I was her age: I only liked vanilla ice cream and vanilla flavors. One lick of a chocolate ice cream cone sent me scowling.
But, we ended up chucking at least half of these brownies into the garbage can because we couldn't eat anymore of them. Should have brought them to work and foisted them onto the good folks who are staunchly doing Weight Watchers. Right.
The recipe is from Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook, which I reviewed a few weeks ago. Followed the recipe exactly except I didn't have Fleur de Sel to sprinkle atop them. Oh well. Nothing is perfect. Embrace imperfectionism. It is my mantra.
